Letter From The Secretary-General
Dear Delegates and Staff Advisors,
It is my distinct pleasure to invite you all to Richmond Green Secondary School’s second conference. On behalf of the Secretariat, Staff, and the RGSS community, we would like to extend a warm welcome to all and are delighted to host you on Zoom from Friday, May 7th to Sunday, May 9th.
These unprecedented times have provided us with a great many unprecedented opportunities, not least of which is our ability to invite delegates from all over the world to participate in our conference, and expand greatly from our successful inaugural conference. At our very first conference, we were proud to host over 60 delegates in several committees debating complex issues at a high level, and look forward to continuing to foster an environment of productive and professional discourse on innovative solutions.
This year we are delighted to offer a great variety of engaging committees, from General Assemblies and Economic and Social Councils to Specialized Agencies, Crises, and our very first Ad Hoc. No matter your interests, we have a committee for you, from the International Coffee Organization for coffee lovers, The Office JCC for fans of the franchise, and so much more! No matter your experience, we have a committee that suits you, from our beginner committees such as the UNHRC and Harry Potter crisis, to committees for the advanced conference veterans such as the UNSC 1947 and Ad Hoc crisis.
We are proud to be guided by the principles of diplomacy, global citizenship, and creative collaboration, as outlined in the charter of the United Nations. Delegates at RGSSMUN II will be judged by conducting themselves according to these values in addition to their public speaking and debate skills. Our conference offers a great opportunity for delegates to also develop key skills such as leadership and critical thinking. Most importantly, a successful delegate will demonstrate their knowledge of domestic and foreign affairs and bring innovative and multifaceted solutions to large issues regardless of their assignment or committee.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at our conference email rgssmunii@gmail.com. You can also contact our faculty advisor, April Morris, at april.morris@yrdsb.ca, if you have any further inquiries, comments, or concerns.
Finally, we would like to thank our incredible Richmond Green SS staff and administration for making this conference possible.
I look forward to seeing you all in May for a weekend of productive, substantive, and creative debate!
Best regards amidst these trying times,
Jonathan Dong
Secretary-General RGSSMUN II
